Whatever your age you are entitled to: -
- an itemised payslip
- a writen statement of the basic terms of your contract of employment
- a minimum of 4 weeks paid holidays
- a maximum average working week of 48 hours
- unpaid time off for family emergencies
All workers of any age have the right to be: -
- free of discrimination
- protected against dismissal for claiming your rights
- able to join a trade union and take part in union activities
Young parents have extra rights to
- at least 26 weeks' maternity leave
- 2 weeks paternity leave
- request to work flexibly
If you are under 18 you are entitled to
- a daily rest period of 12 consecutive hours in every 24 hours
- an uninterrupted wwekly rest period of at least 48 hours
- rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if the working day is 4 hours or more
- you must not be asked to work between midnight and 4am
If you are 16 and 17 year olds your employer should not make you do work which: -
- is beyond your capacity
- exposes you to toxic substances or radiation
- involves exposing you to extreme temperature, noise or vibration.
