the HUT (MyPlace)
£5m Myplace Facility for Young People to be built in Airedale.
Wakefield Council in partnership with Chrysalis Youth and Community Project have been awarded £5m to build a brand new, state of the art, youth facility in Airedale as part of a National myplace programme.
‘The Hut’, as it will be known, will serve the Five Towns area of the district, and will provide a modern space for young people to engage in activities as well as access a range of services for advice and guidance.
The project has been designed by young people from the area and will include the following amenities:
· Four lane bowling alley
· Sports hall/ performance hall
· Gaming room/ mini cinema
· Café bar
· Cyber café
· Pool tables
· Recording studio that will broadcast as a radio station
· Multi Use Games Area
· Adizone (outdoor gym)
· All weather pitch
· A number of seating areas/ chill out zones
· Dedicated space for partner agencies to deliver services for young people to access support.
Building started in July 2011, and the project is due to be open Autumn 2012. During the coming 12 months there will be a number of opportunities to become involved in the project. Specifically, we are looking for community groups who may want to utilise the centre, agencies who deliver services to young people to operate provision there, and young people from across the Five Towns area to become involved in designing art work for the centre, as well as forming a committee of young people to drive the project forward ensuring that the activities on offer are led by young people.
