Criteria Used by YOF Area Panels

 YOF is about Shifting Power to Young People
  • Target disadvantaged young people
  • Young People organise own events and new things to do
  • Fund activities aimed at giving young people a voice
  • Activities to raise self confidence and self esteem
  • Getting young people to think for themselves
  • Training and learning new skills
  • Training to help others to have a voice (eg youth work training)
 And providing More things to do and places to go
  • Sports facilities (eg MUGAs and playing fields)
  • Sports organisation (eg training and competitions)
  • Taster sessions to introduce activities to more young people
  • More youth clubs and places to chill-out with friends
  • Learn more skills so able to make better use of existing opportunities
  • Improve the environment by helping to regenerate areas
  • Increase opportunities to get involved in regular activities

Targeting young people who need it the most
  • Especially young people who usually get a raw deal
  • Help young people keep out of trouble
  • Bring disadvantaged young people together so that they can get support from each other and make their combined voice heard.

Area Panels will consider the following when making their decisions:-
  • Every Child Matters Outcomes
    • S  Will they be safe?
    • H  Will they be healthy?
    • A  Will they achieve something and enjoy it?
    • P  Will they make a positive contribution to their community?
    • E  Will they learn something that will help them to be better off in the future
  • Are the young people aged 13-19? (up to 25 in certain cases of disability)
  • Will it shift power to young people?
  • Will it create something new to do or somewhere new to go?
  • Will it target disadvantaged young people
  • Which area is it from?
  • Is there an acceptable supporting adult?
  • Is it free of any religious or political connection?
  • Is it long lasting?
  • Will it avoid repeating activities for the same young people?
  • Will it offer accreditation?
 Is it cost effective?
  • Will it have a lasting impact on young people?
  • Will it involve new young people?
  • Will young people want to do it?
  • Will it raise young people's confidence?
  • Will it encourage young people to work together?
  • Will young people learn new things?
